Artist Bio
Gigi Allen is a visual artist and spatial designer who thinks in systems, patterns, and rhythms. She identifies seemingly simple geometries in everyday environments, then implements precise grids and dynamic gradients across color and scale to generate organized movement and uncover the interaction of parts. While her exploratory approach spans mediums and disciplines, painting and block printing are her primary tools for illustrating connections. Her work presents opportunities for meaningful observation, reminding viewers to tune into their surroundings for underlying discovery.
Artwork Description
Bloom and Unfurl are custom painted accordion screens that weave together architectural order and botanical growth. Rooted in a foundational grid, the compositions symbolize the idea that every cultivated landscape - seed trays, planter beds, and vineyard rows - begins as a grid. This framework initiates a transformation into something wild and abundant.
Site-specific references to vegetation such as coneflowers, sunflowers, hellebores, and pea tendrils drive form and movement, while herbs, redwoods, peaches, and plums guide color palette. Through layered systems, patterns, and rhythms, the pieces playfully reflect the phases of growth over time.
Designed as functional works of art, the screens can be used indoors or outdoors as privacy screens, room dividers, backdrops, or headboards.
