Artist Bio
We are a female-founded landscape design and outdoor product studio based in Los Angeles and San Francisco. We use plants and natural materials in their rawest forms to re/connect humans with earth. ORCA exists to create a world where we feel most human, designing functional landscapes and products that are thoughtful, warm, imperfect, and made from raw natural materials. ORCA is part Oregon (OR): reflecting the roots of its founder, Molly Sedlacek, a second generation female landscape designer whose mother was a trailblazer in a primarily male dominated construction industry. The other half reflects California (CA) where ORCA is based and draws on its aesthetic: relaxed, substantial, raw, and local.
Artwork Description
The Alluvium Planter is a swift brush of motion translated in high-fire stoneware. Designed by ORCA and handmade by second-generation potters Atelier Vierkant. Each planter begins with a clay body enriched with grog for strength and stability and kneaded by hand. The clay is shaped into large slabs, which are then joined into a singular form and etched by hand to evoke geological matter imprinted upon by centuries of climatic shifts. The vessel undergoes a single high-temperature firing of about 65 hours, and is left unglazed to articulate the clay’s raw beauty and inherent character.
Price includes planting as shown. Please inquire for plant information.
